The Fourth of July was a lot of fun for our family! Here are a few highlights from it:
The fun times began when I made a huge pot of Cowboy beans (recipe coming soon!). It was full of ground beef, ground deer, bacon, peppers, jalapeno, onions, and beans! A true feast in a pot.
But the excitement really began at our church’s 4th of July cookout. As we were helping grill the burgers and hot dogs, the juice from the hot dogs was just the right amount of fuel our grill needed to set itself on fire. (See the flames down under?!?) It was quite impressive to see the amount of smoke rolling out of it!
Apparently, the guys grilling didn’t like the idea of a grill on fire sitting next to them, so someone ran to the kitchen and grabbed a pitcher of water. The grill was flushed and never used again… Ok, fine. It wasn’t used again that night. But it was usable after being cleaned up a bit!
After the cookout at church, we watched (ok, actually I just watched and took pictures!) some bucket calves be fed. I seem to have a real knack for watching others work while I “work” behind the camera!
After helping/watching the calves be fed, our family and some friends loaded up and headed to our place, where we commenced in the blowing up of things.
Ohhh… Look! Sparks!!! You know, I do believe it’s past time to run, don’t you??
At one point, someone threw some sort of firework over the side of the hill. I didn’t receive the memo that something was about to blow (there were people scurrying everywhere… I wonder why?!?) so I stood there, camera in hand, ready to take another picture… When all of a sudden, things came flying towards and around me and the others standing beside me. This is the picture I snapped right before I took off for the trucks. You see the ball of fire in the middle? Yep. That’s the one that decided its destination was the spot right beside me!
But anyway, we had a great 4th! The main comment made the next morning was that everybody that was a part of the fireworks that night, left in one whole, living piece – so it was a success!
Hope your weekend was a safe and fun one as well!
Ashleigh
