Chocolate chip cookies are probably the most requested cookie in our family, and especially these cookies our mom started making many, many years ago. There’s nothing super fancy about them, they’re normal, simple, and this particular recipe makes a big batch – Which is why we love them! So are you ready? Let’s get started!
You’ll need:
6 3/4 cups unsifted flour
3 t. baking soda
3 t. salt
3 cup butter, softened
2 1/4 cup sugar
2 1/4 cup brown sugar
3 t. vanilla extract
6 large eggs
6 cups semi-sweet chocolate chips
Start by combining the flour, baking soda and salt in a large bowl and set aside.
In another bowl, crack the eggs (no shell, please!) and set those aside too.
In your last bowl (I promise, last bowl!) Beat the softened butter..
And then add in the sugars and beat together again! Dump in your eggs and beat until it’s a smooth, creamy batter.
Stir in your vanilla.
And now it’s time to add in the flour mixture! Dump in 1/3 of it, stir it in well and continue adding it gradually until it’s all incorporated.
It’ll look something like this (and yes, it tastes amazing at this point!)
Now for those 6 cups of chocolate chips…
At this point, we usually gather most of the family around the bowl; everyone has a glass of milk and they get one big spoonful of cookie dough to go with it. It helps keep the little vultures calm until they can get one of the hot cookies from the first batch!
On a side note, you’ll have about 10 pounds of cookie dough here when you get done stirring it all together!
Preheat your oven to 375 degrees, plop little dollops of cookie dough onto an ungreased cookie sheet and bake for 8 – 12 minutes. You’ll want them spread out and just starting to brown. Pull them out and let sit on the pan for about 5 minutes before you put them on a cooling rack.
Serve a big plate full of cookies with a tall glass of milk and enjoy!
