This bread is all the rage right now. Everybody wants crack bread!! It’s not elegant, it’s not classy, it’s sure as heck not good for you, and it’s definitely not what you serve to impress at an evening dinner… But it’s the most simple and amazing thing you’ll make this year!
Now there is a reason that this bread has the nickname “crack bread” – It’s addictive. Very, very addictive.. And it’s so easy to make! You can use about anything when topping this bread. It really all depends on the mood you’re in. If you’re in a “veggie mood”, you can make this a yummy combo of peppers, onions, garlic, tomatoes, cheese or anything else. If you’re in a “bad-for-you mood”, you can just smother the little baby in Ranch, bacon, and cheese. (Oh my goodness… Dying over here!!)
1 loaf Italian bread
2/3 cup butter, melted
1 T. Dijon mustard
1/4 t. Italian seasoning
3 cloves garlic, minced
5-6 yellow pear tomatoes
1/8 – 1/4 cup onion, minced
2 – 3 cups Mozzarella cheese, shredded
Start by laying your loaf of bread on a large baking pan or cookie sheet.
Using a serrated (or bread) knife, cut the bread loaf across diagonally both ways, being careful not to cut through the bottom crust.
In a microwave-safe bowl or measuring cup, melt the butter. Stir in the Dijon mustard and Italian seasoning.
Pour over the top of your loaf. Be sure to let it drizzle down into the cracks!
Now grab your cheese and top the bread with it. Push a little into the cracks and crevices. Don’t even consider being stingy with it!
Top the cheese with the chopped up tomatoes, minced onion and garlic. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 – 20 minutes or until turning golden brown and cheese is bubbly!
Now this is the part where you just stare at it dreamily wondering what it tastes like… Yeah, right! Fraid not, this is actually the part where you jump back from the table after setting the pan down as all of the ravenous people with forks come rushing forward.. If I were you, I might be tempted to wear a protective suit… Or at least a bullet/fork-proof vest.
