Yesterday started out with a short drive through some windy, muddy back roads, through a gate, and then into an area filled with bawling calves and some rather unhappy cows – It was time to work cattle! While it wasn’t intentional, I missed out on the part involving the cows, but got there just…
Bird Beaks and Cat Tails
At one point this afternoon, I grabbed my camera, the Siamese tomcat and headed to the little chicken pen. After sufficiently hiding my toes (these birds need to have toe-eating added to their resumes) from the “birds’ eyes”, I started snapping pics of the playfulness between bird and cat. Actually it was birds and cat – They seemed…
Window Duck
I was sittin’ in bed Saturday night when I heard the most horrible noise, consisting of wings beating, ducks quacking, and dogs barking. Of course, being the brave person I am, I boogied outside with a heavy flashlight (to use as a club if things headed south. You know, just to be on the safe…
Mownin’
About a week ago, we finally got tired of the clover/brome patches in front of and around the house. So they got mowed! Here’s what it looked like after one patch was mowed. Here’s how it looked during the process… And here’s how it looked when the tractor was headed straight towards you… Think I should…
Farm Update
In the past month, a lot of things have happened around our place. Since it seems like the animal kingdom has decided that June was the month for babies, I thought I would share a few of the most recent additions with y’all! The goslings from about two different nests have hatched. One nest produced two…
What Happens When It Rains…
Because of my family being a part of VBS at our church, my blog has had very little TLC this past week. But I’m working on fixing that! So here’s a post that was meant to be a posted few days ago. In the past week or two, we’ve had several inches of rain. Have…
A Walk Around The Farm
I went for a walk around the farm this afternoon. Just as you step outside the garage door, you’re greeted with the sight of six little kittens and a very protective mother (for an example of how protective she is, just ask our dog what happens when he gets within ten feet of her babies!)…
A Field of Green Wheat
Earlier this afternoon, I went for a quick ride up to the pasture along with a couple of tag-alongs. We stopped and took just a moment to enjoy the scene of a green wheat field with a storm in the background. I happened to have my camera (Yep, I see that face. At this point,…
Rain!!
It rained!!! Now it wasn’t much (for us, it was less than half an inch) but it settled the dust. I’m looking at the bright side here! We got all the potatoes in the ground right before it broke loose and most of the other portion of the garden got weeded. So we’re feeling pretty…
Kittens, Ducklings & Turkey Poults
It is definitely spring around here! We’ve got kittens in the garage, ducklings coming out of the woodwork (no, not really, but they seem to be!), and turkey poults popping up right and left. The babies are growing quickly! As you can see, we only have six now. Sadly, a couple of them didn’t make it……
