While what the title says is true, it’s also a little false… Harvest (for who I was riding with) was finished over a week ago, but I still had to share a few of my favorite pictures!
I rode in the grain truck mostly, so here’s what my view was a lot of the time: golden wheat fields (sometimes the straw was already being baled, other times it was still laying in windrows behind the combine), combines, more grain trucks (I mean lots of grain trucks! Everywhere you looked – In town, at the co-op, on the road, in the fields, etc), tractors and grain carts, and blue sky.
So what’s happening in this picture? When the combine’s grain bin was full, the tractor and grain-cart would go out alongside it and continue to drive with it (yep, most of the time the combine would keep cutting) while the combine dumped on the grain cart.
Here’s the grain cart unloading on one of the trucks. Then the grain was either off to a bin or into town to the co-op. (Which has free pop.. So it was usually a happy moment for whoever was in the truck when they got to head into town!)
Here’s the view from the top of a truck with grain in it… Hold on, maybe we need a closer look at it!
Wheat, wheat and more wheat – As far as the eye can see! Okay, not quite, but there is a lot of grain here!
On a different note, I did ride in the combine once towards the end of wheat harvest.. It’s a little ways up there!
It was nearing dark, so I didn’t get a very good picture from the inside.. But it was fun! (And cold. I love air-conditioning sometimes!)
But now wheat harvest 2015 is over… You’ve heard of bittersweet moments? This is one of those times! Hopefully you enjoyed the pictures – If you were a part of a harvest too, I hope it was a safe one!
